Around the Horn

The Yankee infield knew the score

The Iron Horse was losing the was losing the war

They watched Lou go out and man his post

Weak as a lamb, white as a ghost

When "strike three!" the umpire shouts

The Yanks begin to throw the ball about

But looking over they think it might be best

To let Lou Gehrig have a moment's rest

First the basebll leaves the catcher's hand

Sails to third, but they will skip one man

Short to second, straight back to the mound

Around the horn is one man down

One by one, a new team came to town

And they saw the way the Yanks threw the ball around

And since they loved the man, and loved the game

Across the league, each team would do the same

First the baseball leaves the catcher's hand

Sails to third, but they will skip one man

Short to second, straight back to the mound

Around the horn is one many down

So, to this day, in case you wonder why

That man at first, the others still pass by

It's because they're standing where the shadow falls

Of Lou Gehrig, the greatest of them all
