Christmas in Juarez

Ran out of work, and funds got low

Threw some bad checks around El Paso

Before I could get very far

The sherrif pulled me form my car

The judge then brought me up form jail

And said, 'Before I give you bail,

Be back when that warrent says!'

But I'll spend Christmas in Juarez

So when you hear the church bells ring

And the choir starts to sing

Stop and think of me sometime

Down below the borderline

And if you're in a northern town

When the snow falls on the ground

Raise a glass to absent friends

Spending CHristmas in Juarez

Met a loverly seniorita

Whispered, very nice to meet ya

I held her close with all my might

Under the cover of the night

I took her hand and we went walking

She let her smile do the talking

The darkest eyes, the cutest mouth

Then she went north and I went south

So if you're holding someone dear

When the carollers appear

Stop and think of me sometime

Down below the borderline

And if you're in a northern town

When the snow falls on the ground

Raise a glass to absent friends

Spending CHristmas in Juarez

To hold my job and the maquila

I keep the foreman in tequila

And work a fourteen hour day

For eight hours worth of pay

Head back each night to my room

Stare out the window at the moon

And at the star that sealed my fate

High above the Lone Star state.
